Legal
Terms of Use and Disclaimer
Please read these Terms carefully. By downloading, installing, accessing or using any part of Meshieve, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not download, install, access or use Meshieve.
These Terms contain clauses that disclaim warranties, limit our liability and place responsibility for the security of your devices and credentials on you (Sections 3, 4, 8 and 9). These clauses are shown in bold. Please read them in particular.
1. Who we are and what these Terms cover
These Terms of Use and Disclaimer (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and [OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] (“Meshieve”, “we”, “us” or “our”). They govern your use of:
- the Meshieve app for iPhone, the Meshieve app for Mac, the
meshievecommand-line tool, themeshieve-helperprogram and any related software, including updates (together, the “Software”); - the rendezvous, relay and other network services we operate (the “Services”); and
- this website.
If you use Meshieve on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to accept these Terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
2. Definitions
- Mesh: a group of devices that you connect to each other using Meshieve and that trust each other.
- Mesh Credentials: anything that grants access to a Mesh or to a device in it, including the mesh key, invite QR codes, invite links, device private keys, rendezvous passwords and relay invites.
- Host: a device in a Mesh that runs the Software and offers access to itself, such as a Mac, a Linux machine or a Windows machine through WSL.
- Host Permissions: the access a Host grants to other devices in the Mesh, which may include running a shell and commands, reading, writing and deleting files, reaching local network ports and services, and viewing and controlling the screen.
3. How a Mesh works and the risk you accept
A Mesh links your devices directly to each other. Depending on the Host Permissions you choose, a device in a Mesh can run commands on, read, change or delete data on, reach the networks of, and view and control the screens of other devices in the same Mesh.
You understand and accept that if any single device in a Mesh is compromised, lost or stolen, or if any Mesh Credential is disclosed to or obtained by another person, every device in that Mesh, the data on those devices and the networks and services reachable from them may be exposed to unauthorized access, modification or deletion.
Meshieve encrypts traffic between devices and uses device keys to authenticate them, but no security design can protect a Mesh against a compromised member device or a leaked Mesh Credential. We do not and cannot guarantee that a Mesh, any device or any data will be free from unauthorized access.
4. Your responsibilities
You are solely responsible for the security of your devices, your Mesh Credentials and your Meshes. In particular, you agree to:
- keep all Mesh Credentials confidential, and not show, photograph, screenshot, post or send invite QR codes or links to anyone you do not intend to add to the Mesh;
- protect every device in a Mesh with a strong passcode or password, current security updates and disk encryption where available;
- grant only the Host Permissions you need, and review them when your needs change;
- remove a device from the Mesh, rotate its keys or re-create the Mesh promptly if a device is lost, stolen or suspected to be compromised, or if a Mesh Credential may have been disclosed;
- keep your own backups of any data you would not want to lose; and
- connect only devices and networks that you own or are authorized to access, and comply with all laws that apply to you.
You are responsible for all activity that takes place through your Meshes, your devices and your Mesh Credentials, whether or not you authorized it.
5. Coding agents and other third-party software
Meshieve lets you use third-party software on your devices, including coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Pi. Such software is provided by third parties under their own terms. It can run commands, modify and delete files and incur costs on your accounts with those providers. Meshieve passes your instructions to that software and shows you its output; it does not control what that software does.
You are responsible for reviewing and approving what third-party software does on your devices and for complying with its terms. We are not responsible for its behavior, output, availability or costs.
6. Self-hosting
You may run your own rendezvous and relay servers. If you do, you are solely responsible for their configuration, security, certificates, availability and operation, and for any consequences of running them.
7. Our Services
We provide the Software and Services free of charge. Some features have usage limits, which we may set and change. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Software or Services at any time, with or without notice. We do not guarantee any level of availability or performance. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if we must do so to protect the Services, other users or third parties.
You may not use Meshieve to break the law, to access devices, accounts or networks without authorization, to distribute malware, or to interfere with or overload the Services.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Software, the Services and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, with all faults and without warranty of any kind. We expressly disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy and quiet enjoyment, and any warranty that Meshieve will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, that data will not be lost or corrupted, or that defects will be corrected.
No description of Meshieve’s features or security design, on this website, in the Software or elsewhere, is a warranty or guarantee.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we and our affiliates, licensors and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, business, goodwill or anticipated savings, arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of or inability to use Meshieve, however caused and under any theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Without limiting the above, we will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from: (a) a compromised, lost or stolen device; (b) the disclosure of any Mesh Credential; (c) unauthorized access to or modification or deletion of your devices, data or networks; (d) actions taken by coding agents or other third-party software; (e) the Host Permissions you chose; or (f) self-hosted servers.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or related to these Terms or Meshieve will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for Meshieve in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD 100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for property damage caused by our intentional misconduct or gross negligence, or for fraud.
10. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless us and our affiliates, licensors and contributors from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to your use of Meshieve, your Meshes or Mesh Credentials, any device you connect, or your breach of these Terms or of any law.
11. Privacy
Our rendezvous servers learn which of your devices are online and their network addresses so that they can introduce them, and our relays forward encrypted traffic that they cannot read. How we handle this information is described in our Privacy Policy.
12. Apps from the App Store
If you obtained the Meshieve app for iPhone from the Apple App Store, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content, no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it, and no warranty obligation beyond any refund required by law. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and change the date above, and for material changes we will give additional notice where reasonably practicable. If you continue to use Meshieve after the updated Terms take effect, you accept them. If you do not agree, stop using Meshieve.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or Meshieve will be submitted to [COURT OR ARBITRATION BODY], unless the mandatory law of your place of residence requires otherwise.
15. General
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permitted and the remaining provisions will stay in full effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about Meshieve. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. These Terms are published in English and Chinese. If the two versions conflict, the [English / Chinese] version prevails.
